Google Borong Again Thousand IBM Patents

Patent wars in the information technology and telecommunications industries apparently still ongoing. Google as one of his players come back to buy new ammunition in order to strengthen its portfolio in the future from its competitors lawsuit.

This time, Google bought more than 1,000 patents owned by IBM. This is not the first purchase because in July 2011, Google also has bought more than 1,000 patents IBM. Most of these patents from IBM and a small portion coming from Cognos, a company acquired by IBM in the year 2007. This was first reported by Seo By The Sea.

With the purchase of IBM's patents for the second time this coupled with the possibility of success of Google's acquisition of Motorola's Mobility, Google's patent portfolio is estimated to be distended achieve at least 27,000 patents.

Like the previous transaction in July, the purchase value of IBM's patents are not mentioned. Patents are bought by Google by SEO By The Sea are in the field of desktop and server hardware, computer security, database processes, circuit design, parallel database systems and architecture, user authentication, creditcard / smartcard testing, and many others.

A patent of interest is about System And Method For Disambiguating Entities In A Web Page Search which is a joint invention Ramanathan Guha. Ramanathan Guha worked for three years at IBM and then moved to Google in 2005. At Google, he worked on the Google Custom Search and the people who are behind the Google trust rank that play a role in ranking the writer / producer of content in places like Google + and possibly also in web search results.

This indicates Google is not just focused in patents related to buying a smartphone or tablet, but is also associated with the search engines to solidify their position in search engines.

It seems that after the defeat Google in Nortel's patent auction, Google is constantly trying to increase their patent portfolios. So far IBM's patent portfolio is the largest contributor (Motorola approved prior to its acquisition) for Google.

Some of the patents that Google bought IBM's strongly related to the smartphone industry such as:

1. Coordination Of Cellular telephones In A Residential Area Wired To Obviate Need For Residential Service

2. Method And System For Efficient And Reliable Wireless Mac-Layer Multicast Transmissions

3. System And Method Of Making Location Updating Management On A Mobile Station, Mobile Station And Mobile Network

4. Telephone Information Service System

A few days ago Google mentransferkan 9 new patents which also has in recent time to HTC HTC to assist in making claims of patent infringement to Apple Inc.. So far, Google continues to pursue Protection for Android vendors as Eric Schmidt had said some time ago. (Kompasiana / Kimi Raikko)

First Impressions tested the Windows 8

Viewed from a long history of development of Microsoft Windows operating system, Windows 8 may be regarded as the third milestone after the presence of Windows 95 with a navigation system and the Windows 32 Taskbar is the first version of Windows.

Windows 8 offers an interface and experience a truly new for Windows users. However, for users of touch-screen gadget, the presence of Windows 8 is nothing more than follow the developments that era, in which the role of a keyboard and mouse were taken over by the touch and sweep of a finger.

After Microsoft released Windows 8 trial version for developers, two days ago, I immediately downloaded the file. I have used is a 32 bit Windows Developer Preview of 2.8 GB. Files ending in. Iso must be "burned" into the DVD first. Previously, I tried to install directly from the hard disk and flash disk, but stopped in the middle of the road. Installing this operating system must use DVDs.

The installation process does not take long. Only about one-third the time required to install Windows 7 that have previously been embedded in laptops. The green color will dominate the display during installation.

Installation is complete, users will be immediately taken to the Start page is no longer attached to the Taskbar. In the newest version, Windows Start Menu Start page transformed into elongated shades of green that is filled with the default application buttons. This is the entrance of Windows that is fully dedicated to the device touch screen. This view is immediately reminded me of the iPad who became my second device within the last year.

Please note, in this trial version, all applications (beyond the Windows default application) that exist in previous versions of Windows can not be used in this version, including Microsoft Office applications.

Due to Microsoft's latest operating system I use on a laptop Acer, features a touch screen can not be used. However, it does not matter, because Windows 8 can still be used on computers or laptops without the touch screen. To scroll to another menu, I simply roll up the page with your mouse or click the arrow button at the bottom of the Start page. While in the top corner, there is the user profile whose picture can be replaced by utilizing existing webcam.

Although the look of the Start Menu changes, Windows still maintains the old view that here referred to as "Desktop". Once you click on the Desktop menu, you will return to the old atmosphere, complete with pictures desktop, Taskbar panel, and the "Start" Windows logo in the lower left corner.

But, once again, the Start button will not remove a row of menu as in previous versions. When you click the Windows logo or pressing the Start button on the keyboard, you will be pulled back to the Start page. In addition, you can highlight the mouse to the left corner of the taskbar to bring up the buttons governance consists of the Settings menu, Devices, Share, and Search.

When it gets into Windows Explorer, I find the display a new menu that is more structured. I consider this view as the standardization of Microsoft Office 2010 appearance that, in addition to the Windows Explorer, also applied to the WordPad application.

To move to the previous application, you can still use the key combination Alt + Tab or Windows key + Tab (but animated Aero does not come out in this version). In addition, you can switch between applications by attaching the cursor to the left side of the screen. A minilayar will exit near the cursor which will take you to another application. Wait for the next review. (Kompasiana / Iskandarjet)

Selling Android, Microsoft Most Lucky

Although the development of Windows Phone no sepesat IOS Apple or Google Android, Microsoft is still reaping the rewards of the smartphone industry is growing rapidly. Not because Microsoft is getting quite a bit of money from the sale of Android.

Why Microsoft could gain a lot of money from Android? This is because Microsoft provides a soft policy towards the use of Intellectual Property used in theirs Android smartphone. Microsoft adheres to the principles of patent licenses so that some of those patents are used by their Android Relax to wear long as there is payment of royalties to the patent is used. The amount paid by some vendors Android is estimated at least three times the income derived by Microsoft from selling Windows Phone device.

Microsoft's policy is very different from Apple Inc who want their gadgets superiority, both the iPhone and iPad. With this concept, Apple Inc. does not want imitation, let alone the illegal use of patents owned by Apple Inc. smartphone or tablet produced by other vendors.

Microsoft's approach is in accordance with the conditions of patent wars. Although not much like Apple Inc. reported that many vendors accused of Android, Microsoft's revenue gain very much from the Android. In the past month of May 2011, Asymco report any Android devices are sold by HTC, Microsoft will gain five dollars. When HTC predicted this year could sell 50 million smartphones, of course, Microsoft will acquire 250 million U.S. dollars. This is just one vendor.

A few days ago, Microsoft has agreed with ViewSonic and Acer in patent licensing. Although not mentioned how big the deal, analysts believe Microsoft will be the greater revenue from Android. Moreover, not just Android, Chrome laptop produced by Acer will also pay royalties to Microsoft. Of course, Microsoft's policy is very lenient in giving patents tremendous value. It seems that Microsoft will not take the way that Apple Inc. sued for alleged patent infringement pesiangnya because they just want a royalty so that it can provide income that is not a little to the company's cash. Nokia should change its strategy so as not to lose prestige. The way taken by some vendors are pushing the price in the market but while maintaining the quality and technology diusungnya. Through Syimbian began the plan. Latest Symbian phones do not exist under the range of 2 million dollars. And we know the Symbian phones (especially the version of Anna) is generally a high end phone.

Monday (01/08/2011) Nokia officially announced the Symbian mobile phone from the line of Anna who has a qualifying high-end components, but at an affordable price. And, for the first time a series of Nokia 500 is a record as the first Symbian phone that uses a 1 GHz processor. This series also offered physical things that were once used by Nokia to sustain its action in the world mobile phone market, such as the back cover that can be changed (in the sales package provided two types of cover).

Equally important is a phone that weighs only 93 grams, using a 5 MP camera with internal memory space reaches 2 GB. It could still be expanded to a memory card (microSD). Nokia 500 also was asked as a phone that can be used in all countries. See, the frequencies of GSM for 2G and 3.5 G (HSDPA) is offered is very comprehensive indeed. Plus Wi-Fi wireless connection and Bluetooth (unfortunately only version 2.1).

This series of technology use touch screen to its interfaces. Using a screen measuring 3.2 inches with a density reaching 16 million colors.

If the pricing policy applied also means Nokia ready to "fight" with some other operating system. Nokia set a price of 150 euros (about USD 1.8 million) before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia do have to answer the challenges of intense competition. It seems that Nokia want to change the paradigm is wrong, that the high end phones cheap quality is definitely low. "This is one example that Nokia continued its journey to continue to innovate denganrangkaian produkponsel our smart and be an example of how Nokia Symbian will continue to support in meeting the needs of the market in coming years , "said Ilari Nurmi, vice president of Nokia.

With a spec that was carried like this, the price of Rp 2 million, you still can compete with other mobile OS. (*)
